MoooooooOoOOOvies!
Aug. 10th, 2006 02:12 pmLast night I went to an advance screening of Hollywoodland. If you don't know about this movie, it isn't that surprising since it isn't a blockbuster and it isn't going to be huge but I can tell you that it /is/ a good movie. There has been a lot of Superman out there recently and this movie, about the death of George Reeves, certainly taps into all of it. There are a few scenes that show how deeply our heroes can become ingrained into our lives and it truly hurts when they turn out to be less than what we think.
Ben Affleck does an amazing job in this movie. I haven't seen him do better in years and thinking about it further, this might be the best acting I've ever seen from him. There is a depth there that normally feels lacking. Adrien Brody and Diane Lane also do an excellent job. Brody and Affleck both play men who are slowly falling apart but in entirely different ways and for entirely different reasons. They contrast each other well in the script.
The story is a decent mystery, leaving you to come up with your own conclusions about what really happened after giving you a glance into the situation. The ending leaves a lot up in the air but I was satisfied with it. I don't always like to have everything spelled out for me. So, in review, I recommend seeing Hollywoodland. It was an enjoyable two hours.
On another movie note - SNAKES ON A PLANE! Where do we want to go to see it?
