(no subject)

I realized something when chatting with an friend yesterday.

I don't like sleeping alone.

Now, there is part of this statement is obvious. I'd much rather have someone I love sleeping in bed next to me than to be curled up with my body pillow. That one doesn't take too much to figure out.

There is more to it, though. I don't like sleeping when there is no one else in the same place, when there is no one else around. I never realized how much comfort I took in there merely being someone else present. I'd probably never wake someone up because of anything, but it is very soothing for me to know that there is someone there.... just in case.

It's been very subtle and it doesn't keep me from sleeping, but I've noticed a faint unease or discomfort when I go to sleep every so often in my apartment. I just don't want to go to sleep. It's nothing paralyzing, but its something I didn't actively realize until yesterday.

I know exactly what you mean. After getting used to sleeping next to someone, it took me most of a year of retraining before I was ABLE to sleep comfortably alone, and it still bothers me every once in a while. There's just something very comforting, very RIGHT about sharing a bed.

I feel the same way.

I mean, I really like to sleep by myself in my bed sometimes. Granted, if I could, I'd prolly snuggle up next to Derby every night.

But sometimes I don't like to be the only person in a house when its time for bed.

Lemme try that again.

I can sleep alone. I do like to sleep alone. I even like to have the house to myself sometimes.

But there are nights I'd rather not be alone in a house.

I can handle an empty spot in my bed, but an empty house sometimes is hard.

When I was a little girl, my mom worked late, and my brother took care of me in the evenings. I would beg him to stay awake after he sent me to bed, at least until I was asleep.

I hated to be the last one asleep. I don't care when I fall asleep now.

The other issue is I really don't want to be faced with the situation of choosing who I buy food for - me or the cat.
