There are several millions reasons for this. It just kind of .. I don't know. I can't say that it caught me off guard, but....
Don't know. Just a moment of strangeness in my day.
Anyway - What I was going to say over there. Cody's right. School violence is at an all time low. The violence is just much more publicized now and it is with guns in some casses now. It used to be with rocks, sticks, chairs, desks, you occasional knife or something else like that. The media paid much less attention when it was kids beating on each other until hospitalization than they do this. And in a way, that's what these kids want - attention. It's a very long complex matter that I'm willing to talk to anyone about, if you want to hear my opinons on it. I wish I could think of an idea to change the circle I see.
Mike is also correct. There used to be a 'what goes on behind closed dorrs stays behind closed doors' policy in this country. In some ways that was good and in some ways this was bad. I see a lot of these thigns changing in the literature of the time just around the Civil War/Industrial revolution. We also slowly lost courting rituals and replaced it with dating. There were a lot of things that we ditched in our national quest of bigger, better, faster, more before looking at them to see what we were getting rid of.
I don't know if things are worse these days as much as it is publicized how bad things are. Things were always bad. Suffering and violence are not things that we have the corner market on in this country or in this time. Much like sex these things have been around for a long time. And much like sex no one talked about it before, thus making it seem like we just discovered it because we're willing to pull ever sordid, gory detail out into the open.
Bah.
