I think DC (as in the comic company) is heading towards another Crisis-like event.

Seriously.

I could be wrong but I've been hearing whispers about this for awhile. There have been indicators in some comics recently... some more blatant than others.

Lemme copy from an e-mail I just wrote:

Batman is no longer a myth. Nightwing is going crazy and is being given a break from the normal run of his own comic for his own Year One title to take over for six issues. Hal is coming back. Legion is
getting a restart.... The Titans ten years in the future are psychotically dark... There are so many characters you see in almost every Elsewhere comic that you have a chance for.... who are dead in the main canon-verse... Themyscria is completely broken.... I'm sure there are other examples but I can't think of any right now.

And, of course, next year is 20 years since Crisis.

There are some other people who are more comics worthy than I who have pulled together a connection between Kingond #2 and the recent Titans/Legion cross over. (Something about the Golden Age Superman having a door into somewhere else or something.)

And here is an interesting quote from Superman #630 from Mxyzptlk: “HUSH! The ZERO HOUR approaches! There will be a CRISIS on Earth! Time will need Ritalin, it’s gonna be so HYPER! And a WAR, Ohhh, there will be a WAR, so SECRET that YEARS will pass before it CONCLUDES! A DARK age is coming, my friend, that shall CAST you into a NO MAN’S LAND of DESPAIR!” (Thank you chud.com for the quote.)

Enough references to the most recent giant plot arcs for you?

I think with the JLU being as popular as it is, DC is seeing what they do have and what they easily /could/ have. I don't know if they want a world where they have all of these character to play with but I do know that a lot of these characters just aren't around anymore and they obviously have fans out there. I would love to see stories with some of these characters. (Especially ones who just got killed off for no reason other than writers didn't know what to do with them anymore.) Of course, there is another camp that seems to think that this will just be DC's counter to Marvel's Ultimate line. Which could also work out well.

Mmmmmm. Much thought. Much thought.

I think that Ident. Crisis may be an intro to said Big Crisis.

So, according to Mr. M, we're heading for the ZERO-HOUR SECRET HYPERTIME CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS with LOTS OF BATMAN!?

If Mytlzplk says it, its gold.

I diagree.

Why? Because I see DC editing itself as it goes. The problem before that required Crisis wasn't that things were wonky but tht there were a bunch of the same characters running around and none of the made any sense in relation to the others. In one title Lex Luthor was a villain, in another a hero. So to a reader trying to pck up the books, unless you followed it religioously, none of it made any damned sense. So, they merged all of the lines into one so it all made sense.

Now, we have Batman expoed, Green Arrow back, Hal, yadda. But all of that was done/explained in the comics. And there's nothing to prevent these things from coming undone that would harm the course of the overall world.

I would, however, worry about a Crisis-like event in Marvel. Especially as Bendis and Millar get more and more control of all of the books. Marvel, moreso than DC, has had its glaring continuity rror for a decade now. I expect that in a few year when Ultimates sell less and those two and their buddie still want to do their kewl shyte (and rip off other writers) they'll rip off Crisis too, but for Marvel.

Also, finally, DC is having more financial and public succes than it has ever had. I doubt they'll want to radically change that any time soon. Rather, I'll expect DC to sell of more of its properties for things like movies and merchandizing, moreso than it already has.
