This first, though: "Poland may reduce its commitment of forces to the war in Iraq by 40 percent by January 2005 and have all its troops out by the end of that year, Polish officials said Monday."
Simon Kinberg has been hired to write X3. He's written a lot of other scripts but none of them have come out yet. He's written the scripts for FF, Elektra, xXx2 and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. So, we'll see. Apparently he's an amazing X-men geek, though, so there is some hope there. The studio has been in "indepth" negotiations with Joss Whedon. Patrick Stewart says they're starting filming next June.
Here is the final trailer for Alexander. This movie has been pushed back until Thanksgiving and apparently it is because there is too much man nookie in it and the suits at WB are nervous. It's a rumor but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. It seems fitting.
I think John Woo has lost it. He's writing and producing a He-Man movie. Adam Rifkin is writing. If He-man weren't associated with that combination, I'd think it sounded good...
The rumor machine is already cranking up on a sequel for Batman Begins. The script walks right up to it but apparently that's not who they'd be dealing with in the sequel. My vote would be Harvey Dent all the way.
Don't forget, Aladdin comes out on DVD tomorrow.
Apaprently J. Michael Straczynski is a fan favorite towards being a director for the Star Wars TV show. I have to say, he's the only name that's been bandied about thus far that doesn't make me cringe. He's on record as saying he thinks it would "certainly be the job of a lifetime".
And that's it for now.

SW tv?

Date: 2004-10-04 01:26 pm (UTC)Sure, a TV show will never have the budget of major motion pictures. But I don't care. I'd watch it even if JMS did the whole thing with sock puppets.

Date: 2004-10-04 01:34 pm (UTC)As for the He-Man thing, a movie done right would be less like the first cartoon series and more like the second. Basically it would be akin to "Conan the Barbarian" but with Sky-Sleds and Laser Pistols alongside Swords and Sorcery.

John Woo and He-man? That doesn't really work in my mind. JMS and Star Wars is good, though. At this point I think JMS and Star Wars sounds better than George Lucas and Star Wars.

Date: 2004-10-04 01:39 pm (UTC)Well, of course. I just don't think anyone makes good sword and sorcery movies these days... if ever. Conan was excellent but there hasn't really been a genre there. I'd like Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser movies better.

Date: 2004-10-04 01:47 pm (UTC)Babylon 5 was an amazing piece of writing spanning 5 years and there are parts in the begining of the show that don't pay off until near the end. Season 1 is pretty snooze-a-rific but Seasons 3 and 4 were simply amazing. The best sci-fi TV possibly ever produced.
That and he's doing amazing, amazing things with Spider-Man right now.

Date: 2004-10-04 02:02 pm (UTC)That and Marvel doesn't blend with itself right now. Spidey is the best title, they have, IMO. Still...I read Gavin's old comics from the seventies and eighties and I far more interested.
I'm going to watch the second season of B5 and continue reading Spiderman, but for now, I'm not feeling the godhood. Sorry.

Date: 2004-10-04 02:10 pm (UTC)And I'd disagree that Spidey is the best title they have right now. I'd give that to Astonishing X-men. Joss Whedon is kicking ass and taking names with that title, though Spidey is a close second.
I'm not saying that he's a god, I'm just saying that he'd be a better choice than Kevin Smith. Kevin Smith is great at what he does but what he does is parody and comedy. I'd like someone with some experience with TV to get in there and I'd also like someone with some experience actually writing sci-fi and sticking to deadlines.

Date: 2004-10-04 03:32 pm (UTC)Seasons two, three and four, however, are generally acclaimed. (From what I've seen, the preference is for seasons three, four, and two, but you need to watch them in order to get the plot.)
After you finish at least season two, reconsider your distaste. (Not saying you can't still despise the man, but you should at least reconsider.)

Date: 2004-10-04 03:43 pm (UTC)Still, right now, based on the evidence I have, I think Lucas might do better. My biggest reason is the market right now. Since science fiction programming is considered too expensive and "weird," for TV again, especially since reality shows are cheap. We can't afford to have a guy who makes crap pilots - even if they become Rembrants later - becuase we can't depend on the studios to give our shows time to grow anymore.
Then again, that's me...

Date: 2004-10-04 04:44 pm (UTC)JMS will do better than that, even at the pilot. And I agree, the pilot for B5 was pretty damn bad.

Date: 2004-10-05 09:12 am (UTC)She means in choosing someone to be the director. Lucas himself won't helm a TV show.
I can say, I've got other sources that I can't cite here. The TV show is looking moderately likely, and I've even heard a bit about what it might be about/era/possible main characters/villains/etc. I don't know who I prefer more at this point, but I can say that I REALLY hope that they utilize Tim Zahn as a writer.

Date: 2004-10-05 09:17 am (UTC)Right now anyone who has been mentioned in conjuction with directing it or writing it or anything is mostly just rumors and fans wishing real hard.

Date: 2004-10-05 10:34 pm (UTC)but once you get into season 2, and beyond, and get Bruce boxleitner in there, it vastly improves.
Judging by what I've read and seen of JMS (B5, a bit of Spiderman, Supreme Powers, Midnight Nation, Rising Stars), I have faith in his writing ability.
Not to say that Kevin Smith isn't cool. I'd just trust the darker stuff more to JMS.
