Wow. Great movie.

I didn't have many expectations going into this movie. I knew a little bit about it and had a general plot in mind. I was /not/ expecting what I got. While the plot is mostly obvious if you take the time to think about it that isn't the important part at all. If you've seen movies you generally know what has to happen and that's okay. The beautiful part is that you actually care about how you're going to get there.
I'm not going to give anything away with the review. At least I'll try. You can certainly tell that this was made by the same man who made Heat.
The thing I was the most impressed with in this movie is it does an excellent job of telling you who the characters are within the first five minutes they're on screen. Though you get lots of time to know Max and Vincent better, you have the basic characters very quickly. Annie is much les on screen but you know her as well.
Tom Cruise does an amazing job with Vincent. They humanize him but they don't make him sympathetic. He is a sociopath and he's probably one of the better ones I've seen portrayed in pop culture these days. (For those of you reading at home, I sort of have a thing for sociopaths and assassins in popculture. I don't know why.) He's creepy but you can look at him and almost see where he got where he is. Tom Cruise must have practiced gun draws for forever because they're amazing.
Jamie Foxx.. Well, I never knew the man was that good of an actor. He does a really good job of pulling together a character who is thrust into an insane situation. Especially since the character has some interesting quirks of his own which you notice from the beginning.
This si the first soundtrack to a movie in a long time that didn't feel overblown at all and that every piece of music used fit the situation. It wasn't distracting and at times it really helped set a mood for the scene. The cinematography was very interesting. There were many unconventional shots and angles used and I'm sure there is a ton of symbolism in them to be picked apart by someone somewhere.
People probably won't understand this until they see it but it sort of feels like the mid point between Fight Club and Lost in Translation. I'm going to see it again.
