Well, I'm not really arguing in favor of wholly and blatantly rewriting the stories. It's just that somewhere in the last few years I've come to grasp the idea that a movie is simply a wholly different storytelling medium than a book (or a comic book), and that to make things work in a movie you have to take a different approach. I came to the classics on my own, too, and I *do* love the originals, but mostly I don't hate reinterpretations.

Don't, however, talk to me about Disney's The Black Cauldron. :)
