So, I went across the street to the bank and used my lovely stock money to set up a Savings Account. (Insert special shiney noises here.) In the middle of this the representative turns to me and says, "You've been pre-approved for a Credit Card with us at a $25,000 credit limit. Do you want it?"

*blink blink*

I look at the terms and huh softly. They're infinately better than what I have now, on the credit card I got in college. So, I say yes. Who knows. I'd love to get the money off of the card I have now onto some thing more sane. We'll see what happens with that. I'd been thinking of doing that anyway.

And now I enjoy my lovely sushi. Yum, yum, yum.

You might want to ask to have the credit limit lowered.

Lowere limit = enforced sanity.

If you don't have kids, the goal of the game is to die with as much debt as possible. Hey, you got to have fun and there are no consequences ;)

...so says the person who freaks out about owing $1500 on his ccard.

There is no way in hell I'm using a credit card for anything unless I actually need it and have absolutely no other way to pay for it.

I haven't touched my current credit card in months.

Heh. If I get it, I will lock it in a box... or something like that.

Heh. Yeah. I'm doing my best to pay that down as much as I can. I have having it looming there.

Well then you're probabally OK. We're slowly getting rid of ours one by one.

I hadn't even realized that I needed a new one until it arrived in the mail. Most of the debt I accrued on my credit cards was college based anyway. Paying for books and whatever other things I needed but couldn't seem to get the money for.

Once I transfer the balance from one to the other, I'll close the first account.

*nods* good plan.

Of course, on the flip side, when you go to buy a house, the more credit you have avail the better it looks.

*looks off into the distance*

Huh. *pulls you over next to me*

You see that? No. Not that, the other thing. On the edge of the horizon? That, my friend, is me buying a house. It's right next to having kids. Possibly but not too likley as things currently stand.

My eyes are getting bad from aall this computer staring. Hold on.

*pulls out binoculars*

Oh, that. Yeah, I see that. Hmmmm...

Well, yaknow, it's possible for you (or you & some other folks) to buy a house. It's just not really what you're looking for right now, huh?

*shrugs and puts away binoculars*

Probabally better to get rid of it now anyway. Keeps you from forgetting about it.

It is possible and we have thought about it but the financial position is not entirely tenable or desirable at this point in time.

Yeah.

I had no idea why people had such a hard time staying out of debt and spending wisely. I have a high credit limit, but I only use my card for about as much as I can afford to pay off that month, and I've never carried a month to month balance in my life.

Then someone explained it was like overeating, where you knew it was a bad idea and you shouldn't do it, but you just can't help yourself, and then I understood.

Intellectually I accept that debt really isn't that big of a deal and life is meant to be enjoyed and stuff, but I can't get past the big fear emotionally.

Yeah, that's me. When I have a bad day, I turn into a compulsive shopper.

Actually, I'm a compulsive shopper anyway, but a bad day just makes it worse.

But too much available credit is a bad thing.

One credit card equal to 25% your annual salary is a good rule of thumb. (And when I say credit card, I really mean unsecured debt.)
