X-treme X-men will end in April with issue #46. Claremont will be moving to Uncanny X-men, bringing those characters back with him. Apparently he'll also be resurrecting Excalibur, though I'm not sure with who... exactly... on the team.

I've heard there will be a "new version" of Captain Brittan appearing in the Avengers soon. As written by current uncanny hack Chuck Austen.

Could be connected to the new Excalibur...

They're also saying they're doing an X-Men reboot. God, I hope so. Let us purge the horror that is Grant Morrison's X-Men from our minds and collections, and begin anew.

Frankly, I think they should reboot back to the end of the Age of Apocalypse storyline. I mean, the universe ended, how much more of a clean slate can you get?

I'm okay with him bringing them back to Uncanny. X-treme seems to have lost its way, I think and this will hopefully be a good thing.

If Larroca were still drawing Xtreme, I'd be right there with you. My interest in the storyline plummeted the minute they took him off. Sad. :p

But it's sad it's ending anyway, because I really *like* the concept behind Xtreme.

Hrmmmmm. Possibly.

Of course re-boots never quite go right. And, of course, they'll use it as an excuse to bring back Psylocke. Blah.

I think that might be too far back but.... I don't know.

I liked the concept until they really kind of wandered away from it.

And Colossus, whose death was one of the better ones in the X-universe. I don't think they'll go that far back, really, but if it were MY world, they would. :)

What sets my teeth on edge is that last time they gave Claremont a clean slate, he just started to get going and they yanked the titles from him and rebooted leaving all kinds of good storylines in the drink. I fear they'll do it again.

Yeah. Meh.

I fear this word, "re-boot".

...right about the same time Larroca left. o.o Yeah. But I really *do* approve of the idea that some of the X-Men are going to grow away from Xavier's dream, or at least from his implementation of that dream.

I like the who watches the watchmen aspect, and I think the Xavier Institute/X-Corps has been incredibly poorly handled from an in-character viewpoint (I don't know how much of that I can blame on Morrison; I'm glad to put *lots* of the blame on him, but I don't know if it's appropriate) and so the schism within the X-Men that created Xtreme really worked for me.

Especially with Storm leading it, because her discomfort with Xavier's methods started a long time ago, if subtly. There's a bit quite a while ago where Xavier sent her to steal something important, and she does it, but says, "Do not ask me to steal for you again, Professor. We are the X-Men. We have to be better than that." I think that, IC, is the point at which Xtreme as a concept started to be something the Storm character needed to pursue. (Possibly I've thought far too much about this.) So I'll be disappointed to see the title end, because I think there's still a place for the concept, but at the same time, I'm not at all sure the title is *following* the concept anymore, which makes me just as glad it's going to end.

This is so much more entertaining than working. :)

I'd fear it less if they'd let you and me write the X-Men. :)

Heh. I completely agree with you. I would love to see X-Corp have their own title. So far I'm just picking up what they're doing through bits and pieces scattered all over the place.

I like dthe idea. I also wonder where the Destiny's diaries thing went. Did they just vanish? What the heck is up with that?

I would love to write comic books. There is one problem with that and it is that I don't know if I could to it alone. I think stories out so much better with a partner. I follow character actions amazingly well. It's the rest of the world that I lose track of, losing what happens to everything else.

Okay. Well. Huh. Read about this, and not happy because X-treme has been the only X-book I have found readable in a long time. Uncanny...while I like what they did with Josh Guthrie *mrrrrowwwwlll*, I know that the writing's not as good as it should be. New X-Men is pretty much indicative of what is wrong with fandom these days. The fact that Morrison's leaving is the only bright spot in all of that.

As for this...I'm ticked that it's cancelled, but I am waiting to reserve final judgement. I want to see, first, what is to be done with the characters. Specifically Sam, Roberto, and Amara. Once I find out what he plans for those three, then I will cheer or rant as the situation calls it.

I hate being rational, sometimes. :)

I have discovered that I'm certainly the minority when it comes to those who reply to your posts, but I need to say that I'm glad to see XTREME go...it was awful.

But, then again, you need to remember that I find Morrisson's run a refreshing change.

A new EXCALIBUR will never, ever, ever be able to replace the early Claremont/Davis issues. Ever. Ever ever. It holds such a huge place in my heart. it was such a fun book..I, admittedly, lost track of it when the bpook itsself seemed to lose track, but god...Alan davis was the first artist I ever looked at and said "MAN..I wanna do THAT" And it's amazing because my artwork looks nothing like that whatsoever.

I'll be happy to see it go for a few reaons. The main one, is that it isn't doing what it was meant to do any more. I'm enjoying seeing Rogue and Gambit finally get some quality couple time that is not angst filled. I would rather see Claremont get back on track, seeing as this story line seems to be meandering towards a slow painful death anyway.

I have mixed feelings about Excalibur to begin with. I never really read it, though when I did, I found that I hated Captain Britain, hated Meggan for staying with him and loved Rachel.

EXCALIBUR offered a good, heavy dose of Nightcrawler...The swash-buckling, romantic and wityy Nightcrawler that I loved so much...

No, no. You're right. The thing is, I love Gambit and Rogue and even I got sick of them. It was something that writers could just stick in... They got to be like Jean and Scott. We're together but we're not but we're each other's one true love, but damn that other person over there is hot but Oh, I didn't mean that.... Blah, blah, blah.

I'm glad Claremont is giving them an actual chance to change. As far as I can tell that's the only good coming out of these last ten or so X-treme's so far.

See, I tend to get really tired of characters when they become HUGELY popular...Like in the late 80's/early 90's when the world was Wolverine crazy? UGH...HATED that guy.

I think my favorite XMAN was Longshot because of his charm and innocense and he's all but disappeared.

Heh. I like Beast. There should be more Beast. In fact, I think all blue mutants are pretty awesome.

'currently dead'...very good

Who's dead? Jean?

I like Beast as well, and I must admit, I like Grant Morrison's take on Beast best of all...Smarmy...Bitchy. Love it.

I used to love Forge. Totally useless power but cool guy..the Lifedeath books with Storm were incredible...And Warlock..

Psylocke. Dead, dead, dead. I liked her when she was just a psychic, wearing the cloak and armor. Making her into ninja-ho ruined the character for me.

Forge? Useless? What planet do you live on? I would kill for Forge's power.

OHHH yeah...Betsy man...when she was just nice, calm betsy with the psychic butterfly she was wonderful..Ninja-Betsy sucked.

Whatever happened to Rachel summers?

I think that Forge and Cypher and Boom Boom and, maybe, Dazzler should all team up and do pretty much nothing.

I have the issue of Exaclibur where Rachel left. There was some sort of time wackiness. Essentially Catpain Britain was displaced in time and in order to get him back they had to use someone else who was displaced in time....

Essentially they traded Captain Britain for Rachel, which I think was a crap trade, to be honest. I'd much rather have Rachel.

Dazzler - another character with potential that was never explored well.

Isn't Cypher dead?

*awwwws and scritches*

It's okay. I'd rather not be saved either. I'd rather talk about the different levels of characters in comic books. There are non-powered ordinary, non-powered extrordinary, powered ordinary and powered extrordinary.

From time to time I think the people below should be able to figure out how to be the people in above categories. Well. Someone other than Batman who makes a habit of it.

There. Does that make you feel better?

Jimmy Olsen, Blue Beatle, Plastic Man, Silver Surfer...

I feel so dirty...

From: [identity profile] lithera.livejournal.com
Sure. I was thinking Lois Lane, Lady Shiva, Plastic Man, Wonder Woman mayself but that works.

So, here's the question. Where do Green Lanterns fit? Without rings they're pretty powerless, for the most part but with the rings... well.... They win, really.

Date: 2004-01-23 11:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bastardchimp.livejournal.com
Hmmm...The ring makes them cosmic heroes...And cosmic heroes tend to fall into the last category but...I think, logically, I'd have to say category three because, well...You manage to get that ring away from them and they're nothing....I think if a character's powers are mechanically assisted (power ring, anti-grav belt, magic panties whatever) you're a category three.

Date: 2004-01-23 11:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lithera.livejournal.com
So Iron Man is level two or level 3? He's got to be two in my mind but that seems an injustice to characters like Batman and Captain America.

Date: 2004-01-23 11:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bastardchimp.livejournal.com
Well, he's definately two...Because he utilizes a machine system...Of human creation...it's not a magical item so that keeps him out of three...
