No one expects....
Nov. 18th, 2003 10:10 am...the two and a half hour commute.
No. Seriously. I was going to post this mornign about the awesomeness of game with Brian last night but instead, I will regale you with my commute.
I got on the bus around 7:15. There was a small accident right there. No big deal. We drive and drive and drive and I notice that before the Aurora bridge we've stopped moving. Huh, I think to myself, how about that. These things happen from time to time, you see since they're performing some sort of arcane construction over there meant to make traffic better but probably just mirroring other roads turned into arcane symbols elsewhere in the world. For now it just makes things suck.
About ten minutes later I notice that we've made it on to the bridge and the driver announces something over the intercomm that no one in the back of the bus understands. There is something about Aurora and Seattle Center. Now this bus doesn't normally go to the Seattle Center but I shrug and call up Kris to see how she is doing. She hasn't made it to 520 yet. That sounds promising. Really.
I continue reading, after calling work to tell them I will be late since it is now after 8 o'clock and I have to be in by 8:30. They make another announcement saying that they have closed off Aurora and there is no getting into downtown on it. We'll be directed towards the Seattle Center.
Getting across the Aurora Bridge takes 40 minutes.
I finish my book and notice that we've gotten over the bridge and have passed where they are diverting the traffic towards and gone on since we are a bus. Then we hit all of the other traffic that got there before they started diverting it. We sit around for another 20 minutes and we're finally directed onto Queen Anne. I call Sean and tell him not to bother with the world of driving. This is the worst traffic in the history of traffic.
Finally we get onto 5th and I get into the bus tunnel and take a bus to here - the International District. I find when I get here that I have a meeting scheduled at 10:30. *sighs* This will not be a pleasant meeting, I don't think. I was given the option of bowing out of it by my boss but that won't really fix anything and I should be there. Responsibility and all. I have it.
I need a hair cut.
