Beware spoilers.

So, I got my newest X-men Xtreme. I am very happy with it, actually. Gambit and Rogue do not magically have their powers back, which was my greatest fear.

There were a ton of in jokes, which I appreciated. Gambit and Storm are sneaking around looking like Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry. Rogue is going by the name of "Anna". (Ha ha. Anna plays Rogue and now Rogue plays Anna.)

Now, there are some people bitching and complaining about the Rogue in the movies and how that is changing her in the comic books now. I guess these are people who never relly thought about what Rogue must have been like as a younger person. Yes, now she's a brash, loud, charming Southern gal. Before she got the invulnerability, before all of the things that happened, when she first started showing up...

She was not a confidant character. She was a lot like they have her in the movies and I appreciated that. In the movies she's growing up and becoming the chracter I like in the comic books. This is an earlier X-men and not all of those characters are as they will be after all is said and done. Please give a character time and a chance to grow into something more.

On the other side of this, Rogue is having a chance to live a normal life for awhile. Sure, Gambit is off doing sneaky things and not telling her everythgin but she's coming to accept that as well, as part of who he is. She's in a time of transition and she's not as sure of herself as she once was. Geeze.

As for the art and how she's drawn... I could have done without her suddenly looking like Anna Paquin. She's suddenly shorter and the hair is different and all sorts of things. I miss Salvador LaRoca on this one. He's still doing the covers but I honestly could have done without who ever is doing the inside art.

I liked the issue. I'll hold my peace on where things go from here until I see it.

As for Batman, I wouldn't have ever guessed it. It was all there, but I wouldn't have put it together. And... Ummmm. Ouch.

ITA on the Rogue thing. I don't like people dissing Evo!Rogue either, because I think that's also a legitimate who-she-could-have-been interpretation. (It's an AU, not an adaptation, people. Chill.)
