According to Disney Consumer Products president Andy Mooney, the sequel to Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2, will debut at the Tokyo Game Show. Square Enix have not commented on the reports.

It was also announced that Disney plans to create an animated spin off of Kingdom Hearts. A region for the show has not been revealed but due to the popularity of the game the show will probably be aired worldwide.

Finally, Square is planning a press conference at the Tokyo Game Show which will feature some major announcements. More information will be available when TGS kicks off at the end of September.

You mean...there is a sequel coming?

*cheers*

Well, there was obviously a sequel coming - there is a trailer for it at the end of the game. The question was when, dear god, when?

I saw the hidden trailer when I beat the game (all those freaking Dalmations!). I heard it was....many years off.

But, if they take away the 'happy' of the game, I'm going to rebel, hard.

Heh. I'd think you need to prepare to rebel, my friend. I've seen the Japanese trailer. No, no. We're going to the other side of things from what I can see. We went through the Disney lands (the light places) and now we'll go through the Final Fantasy sorts of lands (much darker).

Or so the trailers seem to indicate.

I loved that everything was happy and light but there was so much twisted darkness beneath it. What my ideal for the second would be would be to go through dark worlds with odd moments of sweet light.

I wonder if that is what they'll do. It's just that the characters from the first game (Donald and Goofy, for example) will feel really out of places in darker worlds like that.

Perhaps. I've seen clips of Mickey in the Japanese trailer. Haven't seen any of Goofy or Donald yet.

Ah, so maybe this is...darn, did you beat the game? Don't want to post Spoilers.

I haven't beaten the end of the game but I've seen it. I know exactly what you're thinking and that's what I'm hoping for... The other side, as it were.

Precisely. And since Mickey is my fave, the anticipation factor jumped a notch or twelve.

I want to play Riku.

Am I the only one who liked Sora better?

I liked Sora but I've always had a thing for the redeemable bad guy. (And the non-redeemable bad guys, for that matter.)

The only I couldn't stand at all was Kairi. I wanted to smack her.

I never understand why people don't like Kairi. She's one of the very few good female video game characters I've seen. What did she do wrong that you hate her?

As for the KH2 news, that's great... I didn't expect it to come so soon, but an animated version... I don't think it'd work well as a series, but if they wanted to do it well, I think it could make a good movie.

I didn't really hate Kairi, or like her. She was in a coma most of the game. ;)

And...bah, the bad boy thing is so not me. :)

For some reason she just bothered me. Looking at it more closely, I think it had something to do with the entire "Princesses" part of things. The only girl you got in the entire thing that helps you out along the way is Ariel. The only one who seems particularily competant is Belle.

I wish Kairi had been more like Belle. It seemed that she was little better than a plot point, a reason for Sora to move into action - to react as the protagonist. It feels like it takes Kairi to get Sora to even think about fighting the darkness and then only later, does it seem important to do it because it is the right thing to do.

Does that help at all? I'm not sure if I have done the best job I can.

*laughs*

I am such a sucker for them - more in RP and fiction than in RL, though.

I do see your point. :) But Riku dug his own grave, most of the time. How can he be redeemable after that?

Date: 2003-08-26 06:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lithera.livejournal.com
Yes and no. For the most part he thought he was doing what was best for Kairi. By the time he realized that he wasn't, that was when he held off the bad guy in Hollow Bastion. He held back the shadows.

This is true. Though, allying yourself with someone with pasty skin, dressed all in black and named Malificient should have been an early clue. ;)

Bah. Bah, I say. Maleficent (though I'll say the name should have been a tip off) has style.. Oh wait... Ummm.. She's effective.. Oh damn...

Er... You're right. There's very little reason he shouldn't have picked up a clue in there.

Yeah. But, I have to give credit, Malificient does a /wonderful/ evil!

My fave scene in that game is right after Sora meets Donald and Goofy...there's a scrying pool, and they're talking.

Jafar, Ursula, Oogie Boogie, and Hook, with Malificient walking in from the shadows.

I saw that scene, and I was like "Okay, I quit. That is /way/ too much Disney badass in a single room to deal with."

She's my favorite Disney evil.

Oh, I know. I was like, "No way! You've got to be kidding. Maleficent?"
