It really does seem that the SciFi channel is becoming the SciFi movie channel. Insome ways I don't mind, but in other ways I do.

It has at least given the me the opportunity to watch Wing Commander, the only movie I have ever entirely slept through in the theater.

I wouldn't mind if the movies didn't suck nearly as much. Okay, so the whole Dune thing has been a moment of genius, but two movies do not make up for the plethora of tripe I'm stuibled across lately. The least they could do with some of these is invite Joel and the 'bots!

I know sci-fi has to go cheep these days, but if they really wanted fanboys, what they need to do is get some real movies and/or real shows. Alternatively, they could book reruns of classic sci-fi/horor like, oh say "Max Headroom," or unusual series, like "Logan's Run." Right now, it seems like thier running without a theme other than bargian basement.

Or Nightstalker. I'd love to see some old episodes of Kolchek.

Some of them are horrible and others aren't so bad. I didn't mind the Batman weekend they had a month or so ago. Last night wasn't too bad. The stuff during the weekend is decent. I'll be interested to see the Dune series they have coming up.

Rob the game-store owner says they're going after gross ratings. He's convinced they should ditch that, because a well-done SciFi would get low ratings but killer demos, which would mean the same amount of cash... in theory. I suspect low ratings would be a bad sign if cable companies decided to ditch it.

But really, what they're getting now is casual viewers. They're not getting any fans, any dedicated viewers who will tune in regardless of what's on TNN. That's why I think the attitude that led them to kill Farscape will bite them in the ass someday.

Was that movie worth being awake through?

I've avoided it like the plague, personally.

It wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be either. Take that as you will.
