Well, its hard to tell, but I wasn't expecting the Wings to do it again this year. That and the Leafs just have this issue with the playoffs recently. At least now they have a goalie to match that tendancy.
Totally...Belfour will crack up in the "fishbowl" that are the Leafs. He won't be able to deal with the pressure the fans and the press put on the team. Look for Schwab to take over (like Turco did in Dallas) or for the leafs to bail on him and bring in someone else by mid-season. As for Cujo? He won't take the Wings to the cup, he's a great regular season goalie, but not a money goalie - he surprised me this year (helping the Leafs get as far as they did) but he still couldnt get the job done. If Bowman was staying behind the bench, he could work on Cujo, but Bowman's gone and so's the cup.
*nods* Well, really, there aren't many money goalies left out there. I am waiting for the younger goalies to start stepping up and some of them started to last season. We'll see if they can keep it going.
I think Cujo is ready to make the jump to money goalie. He certainly wasn't the weakest link for the Maple Leafs.
I still maintain Richter would have been a better choice than Cujo. Cujo's going to make it very difficult for Detroit to keep some of its key players.
If Detroit manages to dredge up the money to re-sign most of its team, then Cujo was a good choice. If they lose someone (Chelios is a likely candidate), then it's a bad decision. Being down Bowman, Hasek, and Chelios significantly weakens Detroit.
Well, Chelios has made it clear that Detroit is still his first choice, despite being a free-agent...as long as the Wings make a decent offer to him, he should go back to the Wings rather easily.
I do't know what Cujo is being paid by the Wings, but I heard (somewhere) that he was willing to sign for less, for a chance to play for a cup. I agree that Richter (despite his bad knees) would have been a better choice, mainly because I don't think Cujo has what it takes - I don't see him taking that next step; i.e., actually leading the Wings to the Cup. He's not the man for the job...
