Let me get this out of the way. Oscar nominations are out there:

Best Picture: “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Frost/Nixon,” “Milk,” “The Reader,” “Slumdog Millionaire.” - I haven't seen any of these, which is a damned shame. I want to see them all in varying levels of interest. I'm not sure about Benjamin Button or The Reader, to be honest. I really want to see the other three. And I can hear fandom screaming from here. My only substantial comment is that I wish Hollywood in general and the Oscar committee in specific understood that making a blockbuster (comics, fantasy, sci-fi) does not have mean mindless shlock. That means all of you making AND awarding films (I'm looking at you specifically Michael Bay.)

Actor: Richard Jenkins, “The Visitor”; Frank Langella, “Frost/Nixon”; Sean Penn, “Milk”; Brad Pitt, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”; Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler.” - No Clint Eastwood? That's surprising. I think Langella might be getting one here.

Actress: Anne Hathaway, “Rachel Getting Married”; Angelina Jolie, “Changeling”; Melissa Leo, “Frozen River”; Meryl Streep, “Doubt”; Kate Winslet, “The Reader.” - Hrmmm. Kate Winslet is up to six nominations and Meryl Streep fifteen.

Supporting Actor: Josh Brolin, “Milk”; Robert Downey Jr., “Tropic Thunder”; Philip Seymour Hoffman, “Doubt”; Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”; Michael Shannon, “Revolutionary Road.” - Really? RDJ for Tropic Thunder? That seems... an odd choice to me and also a culmination of a year's work.

Supporting Actress: Amy Adams, “Doubt”; Penelope Cruz, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”; Viola Davis, “Doubt”; Taraji P. Henson, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”; Marisa Tomei, “The Wrestler.” - I doubt that Penelope is walking away with this at all. Other than that, it looks pretty open.

Per MTV's Splash Page: "With work on “The Hobbit” really starting to move forward, Guillermo del Toro updated MTV News this week with exclusive scripting, casting and pre-production news, including confirmation that “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola will be coming aboard for early visualization." Huh. That could be really interesting. Those two do so love to work together.

Ed Brubaker shared some hints about the Captain America. Cap is coming up on the 50th issue, which will include a "huge shock". There will also be an issue devoted to Sharon Carter and her memories of the day Steve Rogers died, "which may change how you view those events".

The Hollywood Reporter says that screenwriter John August (He wrote the more recent Charlie and the Choclate Factory) will write the adaptation of Preacher for the big screen. So, that's moving forward, which is interesting. I have no idea how that will translate. He's also apparently been hired to write up Frankenweenie for a Tim Burton/Disney collaboration.

George Clooney And Julianna Margulies are going to be on ER for the finale, or so it is being said out there.

Mattel has announced that it will be releasing three Barbie dolls in honor of the new Star Trek film on May 8th - Kirk, Spock and Uhura, in case you were curious.

There are a lot of Blackest Night spoilers coming out through the toys. There are now two characters I've seen. The second one is a fairly obvious guess if you're thinking about it.

Erwin Stoff is producing the live action Cowboy Bebop and he has stressed that Bebop's creator Shinichirô Watanabe will be involved in every step of the process, which helps but still. Keanu? Really?
