More than ever...
Oct. 28th, 2008 08:13 amI am tempted to buy a Kindle. $50 off! http://www.oprah.com/slideshow/oprahshow/20081024_tows_kindle Man. Keeping track of all of the books I read in a year has completely verified that I spend more than the cost of a Kindle on books in a year. (Not even adding in graphic novels or the like, as they don't count. Yet.) I read three books and four graphic novels on the trip to New Orleans and the reason I didn't put a big dent in the new one is that I was just too freaking tired on the plane last night.
Speaking of cool, who out there isn't on Google Reader yet? Man. It is like drinking from the fire hose of information but I love it so much. I find 5 cool things before breakfast because of that thing. For example: MTV put all of their music videos EVER up on the net. Google and NASA are working to bring the Internet into space. There is a really neat map of what the telecommunications family tree looks like. Amazon.com Window Shopping is live and it is pretty freaking cool. (http://windowshop.com/) Today marks the end of an era, as JVC has stopped making stand alone VHS players.
Freddy Ljungberg is going to be on Seattle's new soccer team. *ahem*
Neil Gaiman says (to MTV) that he is producing a live-action adaptation of "The Graveyard Book". At the same time reviews of Coraline are coming in and they're positive.
Christopher Nolan on a third Batman movie: "Well … let me think how to put this. There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What’s the story? Is there a story that’s going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? That’s the overriding question. On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name? [Laughs.] At the same time, in taking on the second one, we had the challenge of trying to make a great second movie, and there haven’t been too many of those either. It’s all about the story really. If the story is there, everything is possible. I hope that was a suitably slippery answer."

Former Dr. Who director, Joe Ahearne, is writing a new Superhero series for the BBC, to be called Superpower. Each episode will be stand-alone, which I think is fantastic.
Sam Raimi has a new TV series in production called Legend of the Seeker. It premieres Nov 1st. I hate the books but the show looks watchable in that Sam Raimi Xena way... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6AYsCRDhEo
Adrien Brody will star in independent action film The Courier for Arclight Films.
Paramount Pictures has fast-tracked Footloose , hoping to get the film ready for Zac Efron to start production next spring, per Variety.
Killer Films has signed a deal with the GC Corp. to co-produce "William the Conqueror". Mmmhmmm.
In case you were wondering, yes, Dr. Manhattan will be all naked in Watchmen. There are places in the trailer that debuted at the Scream awards where you can see this if you're really interested. I haven't gone to look but there are screen shots.
Crispin Glover has signed on to play the Knave of Hearts in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Heee!
Columbia Pictures is bringing Katherine Kurtz's "Deryni Rising" to the big screen. Still looking for the next LotR, aren't we?
If you want more Dibney Ghost Detective action, I recommend the DC Halloween Special.
The Trial of the Chicago 7, a dramatic adaptation of the aftermath of the rioting at the 1968 Democratic Convention, has gone through a number of potential directors, from Steven Spielberg to Paul Greengrass, and now "exploratory" talks have started with Ben Stiller. From The Big Picture.
Lots of Torchwood season 3 stuff wandering around out there. Mmmmmmmm. Interesting. No spoilers from me here but I can tell you all I know, if you want.
Fox is taking a chance with it's new comedy, Boldly Going Nowhere. It is a SF comedy aboard a starship with a rogue captain and a robot who thinks he's smarter than the humans. And it is Fox! Yeah, Fox!
Warner Bros. Records will release a Special Edition version of The Dark Knight soundtrack on December 9. Two discs! Mmmmmmmmm.
