Travel: Day One
Jun. 27th, 2008 09:25 amThe Shuttle was right on time. This was the only thing that was right so far yesterday and I should have been surprised by it. There were a lot of little things that were off yesterday, so having that be right was not in keeping with the rest of the day at all.
When I got to the airport, I see that my flight is delayed and that I am going to miss my connecting flight. Going up the the counter, I don't have a lot of hope as, well, there are not a ton of flights that go into Flint, Michigan. So, they look and look and look and finally find me a flight on Midwest. It is leaving in 40 minutes.
So, I get booked on that and go get into the security line. I'm not sure what was on my boarding pass but I got to go to a special line where it went faster but the attention was much more personal. They went through my bag, patted me down, and wiped my bag down checking for hints of explosive or flamable things.
I got to my gate almost at the end of boarding but I made it.
The flight itself was uneventful. Getting into Milwaukee, glad it is a small ariport, I got to my connecting flight only to find that the seat I've been given has been also given to someone else. This begins a saga of me trying to find a place to sit with the plan growing slowly more full. The attendant said, "This must be the worst flight of your life, huh?" And I replied, "This isn't anywhere near it." Because, honestly, it was sort of funny. I have much worse travel stories than that.
I get in and the shuttle for the hotel is not there. Not there. Not there. The front desk doesn't answer the phone. I decide to take a taxi. Apparently the taxis in Flint charge $14 to go to the hotels no matter how far. I can see where that is a bonus for some people but since I'm going to the other side of the freeway... $14 for 2 miles seems silly. Then again, it wasn't like I was going to walk, now was it?
I've stayed in many places but this one probably makes my top five for skeeziest. If we narrow that down to places I've /paid/ to stay... It's likely top two. The dogs barking and howling all night was awesome. Though, I did get to watch Batman Begins, which was nice. I hear that The Dark Knight has over a two hour run time. *cheers*
My parents should be here in about 30 minutes, so I should get off of this dinosaur of a computer and check out. So, y'know, I can wait for them.
