What Made Milwaukee Famous - Well, damn. I liked these guys. They had some solid rock stylings. And then they added in the synth! Way to go, guys! I was super happy with this litlte discovery. They're from Austin, so I might not get to see them much but I'll keep them in mind.
Blue Scholars - We have actual hiphop artists in Seattle. I knew that before but I didn't really /know/ it. Any group that is a) GOOD and b) can make a reference to Optimus Prime and Ted Dibiase, the Million Dollar Man in one song has me hooked. And I know that makes them sound geeky when they're really, really not.
People's Republic of Komedy - We stopped in here when there was nothing musically we were interested in. The last guy was funny. Really funny. The two people before him were really hit and miss. So... not bad but then, not great, either.
The Cops - Punk! Except not. I liked it but it wasn't really anything that stuck with me. they drowned out Tegan and Sara which was really what I was looking for since I really can't handle those two. No insult, I'm sure they're lovely but somethign about them just pushes a button and I want to yell at them... or something.
The Presidents of the United States of America - YEAH! PRESIDENTS! It occured to me while watching them that this is the band I've probably seen the most in my life. Which is a little odd, all things considered. I love these guys, though. They're funny and always put on an excellent and energetic show.
Michael Franti and Spearhead - Huh. I wasn't expecting a hell of a lot, here, I just didn't want to lost my lovely spot for Death Cab and the Cure. This was pretty good, though. I enjoyed it, adding more musicality to the hiphop was very nice and it wasn't over the top or two layered for me. Wheeee!
Death Cab For Cutie - Awesome. Totally awesome. I need the new album as that's the one that finally broke me and made me like this band. And my quote of the evening from the lead singer: "I'm wearing all black tonight. I'm wearing all black on the outside because it reflects how I feel on the inside and... I can't wait for The Cure! I'm so excited to see them!"
The Cure - Wow. Two and a HALF HOUR set. We walked out after that set and didn't stay for the encore. I probably missed a few songs that I wanted to hear that way but it was already 12:30 and it is 30-40 minutes back to the hotel. It was good and I'm glad I saw it. I had to hold myself back from educating the kids sitting next to me and getting high. One of them was all, "I didn't think this would be some crappy emo band". Of course, there was irony in the fact that one of them was wearing a Marlyn Mansion shirt and the other a shirt for Death Cab for Cutie. *shakes her cane at those hipster youngsters*
This evening! We're going to be heading out of here early-ish, so we can grab a showing of Speed Racer. HOLLY! YOU ARE COMING TO THIS. I WILL TRY TO CALL YOU LATER! Kris is coming too. It looks like the 10:05 showing at Pacific Place is where we're going to be going.
