ECCC Day One
May. 10th, 2008 08:26 pmI get up at 6 and force myself to actually get out of bed. I get dressed, grab a bunch of stuff that I think I'll need and walk down to the Convention Center. It is a pretty good walk in the morning, my mp3 player helping with good songs this morning. I get there wearing my volunteer shirt and aren't allowed in because I don't have a badge. Well, I don't have a badge but after a bit of conversation and seeing Jim (the guy totally in charge) I get waved in and get my badge.
I findout I am early. Really early. Still, I sit down and start assembling badges since they need people to do that. I talk a lot with the people who are there and am generally chatty. It was a good time and I got to know an older gentleman named DeMotte who got along well with me. We chatted about hockey and comics and sarcasm. It was fun.
Once I got over to where the photo booth was, it became obvious that the other two girls who were supposed to be there, weren't there. This... this sucked. Don't get me wrong, I liked where I was and what I was doing. The photographer (Froggy) and the man printing the photos (Corey) are both really interesting guys and I'm glad to know them, even just the little bit I've been able to in one day. I'd happily volunteer with them again any time they're in town at a show.
Still, sitting there all day and not being able to leave sort of sucked. Kris came to see me and she got me a cute, cute, cute super cute chibi Batgirl from Dustin Ngyuen. YEAH! AWESOME. About that time Gail Simone went by to her DC pannel and we waved at each other. After the pannel Greg Rucka stopped by and we chatted for a bit and I gave him one of my Harvey Dent pins. It is... something of a squee moment that these people recognize me and will stop to chat when they have time. It is... a little mind boggling and yet awesome and chill at the same time. Holly stopped by and sat with me, helping out some, and Cherie and Aric also stopped by, which was cool.
I sold photos. Probably not as many as I would have liked but $30 is a little steep for a photo. These are completely quality photos though and you get a little bit of time with the person and in a lot of cases a hug, if you want one. Most of the awesome ones, though, I have to say were with Wil Wheaton. Darth Vader and Wil Wheaton is FANTASTIC, I have to say. For working the booth, I get to get a picture. While Jamie Bamber is fantastic, I totally want to get a picture with Wil Wheaton. Tomorrow Holly will be working the table with me as I got her a volunteer badge, so tomorrow I'm hoping to be able to get up from the table and walk around a bit. Maybe buy some things, get things signed.
After the con, I went over and talked to Phil Noto and told him I'd like a sketch but I'd been stuck at the photo table all day. He said to come and look for him in the morning and give him my sketchbook and if I didn't make it over he'd come and get it from me. WHICH IS SO NICE OF HIM. I also talked to Gail Simone some what after, exchanging a few words and I told her, I'd try to come over and talk to her tomorrow if I got a chance.
I've now, because I'm a dork and didn't today, dug a few things out to get signed tomorrow if I get a chance. Certainly sitting at the table all day saves me money, that I must say.
Man, am I tired but I had a great time.
