Jun. 20th, 2002 12:40 pmOh. I finished Kushiel's Dart and am about a third into Kushiel's Chosen. It isn't as good at the first one, as of yet, but it has the power to move me. I'm highly impressed with her details on a world that has all of the markings of being our own, but with differences to the history. From her description I easily recognized Venice as the cahracter arrived, though it was refered to by a different name. The Roman road and aqueducts are there.
I am impressed with the amount of detail and color her writing evokes in me. And, yes, there is quite a bit of sex in these books. It makes sense, what with the main cahracter being what she is. Her nature is at the very core of these books, when she loves what she is and when she hates it. They are not meant for the squeamish, but this second one doesn't seem to have as many of the evocative descriptions. I'm not one for blood or cutting in sex, but the way she described the cutting and the flowing of the blood.... I could see where it would appeal to someone. There is a lovely scene with .... Damn. I've forgotten the exact term for the rope pattern, but it is the basic diamond Japanese rope bondage pattern. Ka.. Kara... Kata... Kana... Damn.
Oh well.
Anyway. I am enjoying this book. The first one had me completely hooked on the rollercoaster ride. I spent the last 200 pages (at least) between tears and triumphant joy. I've fallen in love with Joscelin, though the relationship aspects at this point are a bit wearing. We'll see how it goes from here.
