This is really starting to get a real life Boneshaker feeling to it. Instead of zombies and noxious gas, we'll have sinkholes and unstable buildings for the next earthquake.

Oh yeah and a huge tax burden because no one seems to be able or willing to plan.

Deep bore, through loose landfill and sawdust on top of tidelands, in earthquake country - this is going to be awesome. Look at the Original topography map and despair.

Of course, Dominic is an idiot who hates anything other than the "Surface-Transit" non-option, but I think he's right about the deep-bore project.

I don't have the right answer but I'm also pretty sure right now that NO ONE DOES. All of the answers I've seen are bad - especially when backed up with the non-planning for financial burden and Mary Sunshine unwillingness to plan for things to go sideways (which they will).

I mean, yes, something should have been done about the Viaduct years ago but being stubborn and unwilling to listen because you're afraid something you should have taken care of years ago is going to bite you in the ass is no reason to run headlong into something worse.

Wow, buying a house is suddenly looking less appetizing again.

But seriously, has there been a deep bore transit tunnel with an up front projected cost that hasn't hit a massive overrun?

So far I've only been able to find two categories of these projects, ones that have a fixed annual budget and are "done when they are done" and ones that have a project budget and end up costing between 50% and 400% more than the project budget...
