Two big things, at least from where I'm at.

1 - The Japanese election results are huge beyond huge. The Japanese haven't changed leadership parties since 1955, so you can imagine how big of a change this is. The DEmocratic Party won more than 300 of the 480 seats. That's amazing for a party that's only existed for 11 years. You have to wonder will this create chaos or will it be like attempting to change a mountain? I'll be very interested to see what happens next here. It is a transition from a right of center party to a left of center party that could certainly shake up a lot of things over there. They're interested in less military, more fixing things at home, less corporate focus replaced with more people focus and less reliance on America diplomatically.

They have a lot of important things in front of them to figure out. Unemployment in Japan has hit 5.7%, which is terrifying and unheard of there. On top of that the Japanese government estimates predict their population will drop to 115 million in 2030 and fall below 100 million by the middle of the century. The economy in Japan has started to turn around but things are still shaky

2 - Disney bought Marvel for $4B. With the video games, movies and everything else, I would have thought that it was more than $4B. Disney will pay Marvel shareholders $30 per share for their Marvel stock, plus .745 of a share of Disney stock for each share they own. On the video game front, it seems that Disney is going to keep the deals that already exist and re-examine as they expire. Activision's deal ends in 2017, as an example. Sega, Gazillion and THQ also currently have deals with Marvel. On the movie front it looks like there are five more pictures till the Paramount deal ends and then Disney wants to handle all movies going forward.

I have a few questions I can't find answers to. Disney recently (like a few months ago) licensed out all of their comic properties to Boom Studios. What happens there now? Is Disney oing to roll back the non-recourse financing of Marvel movies? Also, Marvel currently deals with Diamond, which could lead to some interesting situations with the way Disney goes to market in that space. There are a lot of comparisons to the Disney/Pixar relationship but what was originally very seperate is slowly looking (at least outwardly) to be less so. Interesting.

Edit to add: Please remember that Disney owns Touchstone and Miramax. Not everything they touch becomes Disneyfied. Though some little corner of my heart pitter-pats faster at the idea of adding Marvel to Kingdom Hearts.
