Why...? Really...
May. 27th, 2009 10:19 amThe big thing the past few days is Buffy related. The people who own the Buffy movie rights want to make a new Buffy movie - unrelated to the TV show or anything that came up in the TV show (partially because those rights are owned by others) but would be happy to allow Joss to pitch them on a movie idea. My friend
ocvictor wrote a good summation of what he thinks about that and it parallels what I think rather well. I don't think that a Buffy movie remake is a good idea. The franchise is still healthy and they're still putting out a lot of product. Still, what they want to do with the rights is up to them. (Again, that of at least equal quality argument appears...)
In similar news, they're looking to do a Flight of the Navigator remake. That makes me a little sad. I love that movie and I think it was pretty much perfect - for what it was.
Alan Burnett's pitch for Green Lantern: First Flight was “Have you ever done Green Lantern as Training Day?” and then added the idea of the Denzel Washington role being Sinestro. Sounds about right to me.
Speaking of GL, yes, I've totally seen the fan made trailer and I think that Nathan Fillion could /easily/ fill the role, I think they're looking to cast a little younger. Especially since they're looking for a multi-picture deal. Nathan Fillion has seen it and Twittered happily about it.
Jon Favreau and crew are building a massive set for Iron Man 2. There are pictures up at SuperHeroHype.com. I'm not at all sure what it is. They've also recently been filming at Edwards Air Force Base.
There are Timothy Dalton rumors swirling around Dr. Who. I have no idea why, as it seems no one has confirmed him being on set but he's seemingly IN CARDIFF and, of course, a big deal must be made about that. Also, the 10th Doctor will be on The Sarah Jane Adventures in season 3 for at least two episodes.
Al Pacino has been signed to star in an HBO movie about Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Hooray?
There continue to be rumors about who what and where in Spider-Man 4. I mean, hell if Sam Raimi doesn't out and out say, "Not a chance in Hell", people are spinning it. C'mon people, there is plenty more to report on out there.
Dynamite is putting out a comic that features (wait for it) Ash and President Obama. Yeah. That Ash. I.... Ummmmm. Huh. The idea of it makes me chuckle.
Boom Studios has gotten the comic book licenses for the Disney properties. If you haven't picted up their Muppet Show book and you're at all a fan, I recommend you go find a copy and at least read it. The tone is spot on.
There are about a MILLION rumors as to who is getting put on JLA. There are some of these team ups that would make me dance and some that would mean I'd stop buying it. Wait... am I buying it now...? It says something that I'm not sure.
According to MTV Katee Sackhoff "was at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles last week to procure a significant chunk of comic books starring Daredevil character Typhoid Mary. According to the store, Sackhoff herself proclaimed that she’s hoping to land a role in a Marvel movie." I know they've been talking about spinning up Daredevil again for a reboot but... that would be the first solid news I'd seen on it.
and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel has a teaser out there. No, I'm not linking it.
And, well, duh, we didn't even mention the ice planet.
