Ummmm... Huh.
Jan. 14th, 2009 10:17 amSo, back in at work today. Still not feeling great but too good not to be at work. We'll see how the day goes.
A few things.
1 - Cake covered War Pigs. Damn that is an awesome cover.
2 - There are a lot of things going on at DC that I'm conflicted about. I won't spoil Final Crisis 6 but there is a pretty definite thing that happens. And while I think that's sort of the way things /would/ go down, I'm also not sure how much I want to read after that. It feels like the end of a story. I'd like to talk to some people objectively about it and because this is comics, that's usually entirely impossible, much to my regret.
2a - I'm likely going to be trimming my titles down. I am looking forward to Blackest Night but there are a lot of things I think I'm done with. I said I wanted to wait until the end of Final Crisis and now that we're almost here, I'm becoming more resolute to pare down what I'm reading. Dini, Rucka, Simone and a few Johns titles are in my future but everything else will be case by case.
2b - Sort of related, there are a lot of hard and fast rumors (as well as hints in some titles) that Barbara Gordon is getting her legs back before the end of 2009. Now, there are a few ways this could be handled that I could be okay with. I won't say that it would entirely make me fly off the handle BUT as a concept it makes me want to facepalm. This is, to me, like taking away Wonder Woman's powers, and teaching her kung-fu and saying that she's 'being empowered'. Barbara Gordon created a place for herself as Oracle. And best of all, it was one that had been needed and we hadn't even realized how needed it was before she was there. We currently have a damn fine Batgirl in Cassandra. (Not that Babs should be a 'girl' anymore.) We also have a Batwoman, who I'm interested in learning more about as a character, so that's taken as well. Where would she go? Why is this something that needs to happen? The last thing I want to do is fly off the handle and be one of the reactionary fans that make me grumpy but... Really?
3 - I forget what else I wanted to say. I'm sure, as I catch up with my Google Reader and other stuff that there will be a lot of other things that I'll post about stuff and things.

...somehow...

Technically speaking she's had full function restored before, thanks to whatsherface with the midichloridian hands (okay, not the actual method, but you remember who I mean), and it only lasted about an issue before she was back in the chair.
Personally, I'd be cool with a semi-reasonable compromise: She regains some limited mobility, not enough to fight crime on the streets, and decides to continue as Oracle, but with some new and cool added dimension to her work. (Nice and vague, yes?)

Date: 2009-01-14 07:22 pm (UTC)The fact that she's still in the chair is a little odd but... then again... She owned it. She didn't let it stop her. She made it her own and that is something awesome that I don't want to lose.
There are levels I'd be okay with. I'd be okay with a cool robo exosekeleton or something. Or limited mobility or... I don't know. There are things I'd be okay with but this feels like one more thing that is being pushed toward the Silver Age 'ideal' and that sort of bugs me. There are plenty of good things that have happened since then!

Date: 2009-01-14 09:00 pm (UTC)I need to look deeper into that.
That is a good cover,
Date: 2009-01-14 09:01 pm (UTC)As far as Cake goes, hands down, my favorite cover is the Sesame Street one. Menomena. Although the track is titled "Mahna Mahna." Regardless, awesome.

Wanna spoil the ending for me? :D
Re: That is a good cover,
Date: 2009-01-14 09:11 pm (UTC)She hated it when the teachers checked attendance...
When they called her name, the whole class would respond "Da Daa Da Dada!"
