I'm slow on the update here. I'm sure I'll miss something but here we go.

29 - Kushiel's Mercy by Jacqueline Carrey - I liked this one more than the one before it. It was nice to see Imriel become an actual person. I'm still not sure how I feel about Sidonie but I certainly liked this second trilogy of books.

30 - Blood Noir by Laurell K Hamilton - Well. I'm not at all sure if I liked this book or not. I liked /parts/ of it, certainly. The last one of these I actually /really/ liked was Obsidian Butterfly. I'm reading now because it is something like a car wreck. That and I sort of want to know how it all ends. It'll end at some point... Right?

31 - Across the Face of the World by Russell Kirkpatrick - I liked this book but it wasn't as good as all that. It was enjoyable but it only got going toward the end of the book, which is why I read the second one next...

32 - In the Earth Abides the Flame by Russel Kirkpatrick - Ehn. It started out well but there is this subplot that not only bored the hack out of me but also detracted from my enjoyment of the book over all. I haven't read the third one and I'm torn on if I want to read it at all. I hate not completing things, so I'll probably read it at some point.

33 - The Amulet of Samarkland by Johnathan Stroud - This was recommended to me by David. I'm always interested in reading more kid lit and he and I seem to like a lot of the same stories so, I took the recomendation. It is a good book. I'm looking forward to reading the other two when he's finished devouring them. People call this a Harry Potter knock-off but the only real similarity is in that there is a boy wizard main character in both.

34 - Watchmen by Alan Moore - It had been a very long time since I'd read this. I know a lot more about comics and I appreciate this a bit more than I did. There is a lot to digest in these pages.

35 - A Gentleman's Game by Greg Rucka - Oh man, what an ending to this book. I've been reading about Tara Chace in Queen and Country for awhile, though in graphic novels not in standard novels. I think she translates fantastically. What a kick in the face and I loved it.

36 - Private Wars by Greg Rucka - I wasn't sure how some elements of this novel were going to work but the more I thought about it as I raed the book, the more I liked it and the more I think they added to the character. Better yet, they grounded Tara in a way which she needed, as she'd been veering into death wish territory more and more deeply. I liked this one too.

37 - Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison - Not sure what I think of the narrative style yet. It is an early book but there is a /lot/ of telling and now showing. It started getting better toward the end of the book, so I'll be picking up the next one to see where it goes from here.

38 - The Blood King by Gail Z Martin - I'm not done with this book but I like it so far. The first one was entertaining and the second one is following suit so far.

After this there will be more Kim Harrison and I'll likely start in on the Atticus Kodiak novels as well. Much reading to do! I'm well on my way to more than a book a week. Huzzah!

One of the man's favorites. And the first fantasy I ever read that I enjoyed. He normally writes for young adults but this one is for a more mature audience. I enjoy his writing style. Reminds me a lot of Lovecraft.

Awesome. I haven't read it in a long time. I should reread it.

I've finished Soon I Will Be Invincible and am currently in the middle of The Good Faeries of New York.

What did you think of the first? I was thinking of picking it up.

It's a nice ride but I wasn't to impressed by where it ended up.

The characters were great and it's fun reading what amounts to Lex Luthor bitching about Superman and the Justice League, but the end of the novel itself was kind of underwhelming in that it ended exactly like a four color comic story always ends.

But like I said, great characters and nice universe he sets up for himself.
