litheraIt looks as though Stan Winston died over the weekend. There aren't many details and I haven't seen anything anywhere other than movie sites so far but his name wasn't as well known as many others because he was an effects guy. There is no way that a large number of the movies I've enjoyed in my life would have been the same without him. To give you an idea of what he's done:
Winston created the Wookiee costumes for the Star Wars Holiday Special.
He created the Terminator.
Winston won his first Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 1986 on Aliens.
He worked on Edward Scissorhands, Predator, Predator 2, Pumpkinhead and Alien Nation.
He won Oscars for Best Makeup Effects and Best Visual Effects for his work on Terminator 2.
His next big product was Jurassic Park where he won another Oscar.
He worked on Interview with the Vampire, Small Soldiers, End of Days, Pearl Harbor, A.I., Big Fish, Constantine and most recently, he built the suit for Iron Man.
Stan Winston was the second special effects artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
