I'm to that point again where I'm thinking about joining a gym.

It comes and goes aroudnd this time of the year.

And I know myself. I know myself and I hate it. I know I'll start out well. I know I'll start out well but something will come up and I'll make excuses and I'll start skipping days and then stop going all together.

So. I need to sit down and have a long talk with myself.

The 24 Hour Fitness at the bottom of the hill is tempting. They have a pool.

I need to sign up for more tennis classes with Josh because I can be active. I can do this. I do enjoy some activities. I just need to remember that I DO actually like doing these things.

Treadmills suck. Tennis is awesome. Ellipticals suck. Bowling is awesome. There is a lesson here but no matter what, it helps if I have a partner or five. It is easier for me to do these things with company.

And it's because I need the competition. I do better and try harder when there is competition, someone to be pushed by or to push in front of me.

I'm eating healthier, I'm getting more active but it isn't enough. Not yet.

I need more clothes I feel comfortable going to the gym in. And maybe a swim suit but that's something of a step right now.

Oi. This has wandered all over the place. Like I said, I need to talk to myself some more.

PT just put in a new passenger only ferry. Dang thing travels like a bat out of hell. Maybe I could stop in for a semi-regular game of tennis? I, like you, crave the competition and I have nobody to play with up here. Two birds? One stone?

The trick to exercising - and I speak from experience here - is to make a habit. If you set yourself a schedule of X days a week (where X is not less than three but probably no more than five) and stick to it, hardcore, for about a month, by then it'll have become habitual and you honestly won't feel right if you don't exercise on your exercise days.

I've been told this but it hasn't ever kicked in for me. I'm thinking maybe I just need to take it one month at a time. Especially now that money shouldn't be an issue with actually paying for the stupid gym membership.

Thanks, Chris.

I know our school is a bit on the far side, but I think a martial arts studio would be really good, depending on how their teaching style is, but you tend to have no lack for workout partners in a martial arts school. Especially if the school focuses on partner drills (like the one I go to). More info here if you become interested. I can still give you a 2 week trial card if you want! ^_^

*chuckles* It is on the far side for me. I love the idea but the further I have to go, the less likely it is I'll continue to do so. I will look, though!

MKG is the next closest (to you) place I'm familiar w/ that is similar to our school (at least from what I've heard). From the website they look pretty good. And they're in Greenwood, which I think is significantly closer to you than Renton.

It is closer.

Thanks! I'll take a look.

On the bowling respect, if you want someone to be competitive with there, I still have all my old stuff. In the very least, maybe we should catch a game up at Garage or something, what with the not seeing eachother in.. what, a huge of years?

Tennis class has been awesome, and I think the main reason it's worked so well for both of us is having someone reliable to go do it with. I'd love to keep it up with you, and if we end up stopping classes I'd like to keep up a regular tennis date, maybe as a Saturday morning thing; if there were folks who also wanted to play, they could come along.

I'm Adam's (popeyorick's) girly. *wave* Now I've introduced myself!

If you like dancing at all, I'm usually the girl who organizes goin' dancin' nights for some of our friends (swing, salsa, tango, crazy goff club angst dances, etc) and makes sure we all get out and dance till we're dead on our feet. Most of us are terrible (and I'm out of practice) but you're welcome to come if you want to get sweaty and giggly. also, Adam is the one who sighs over how we never go bowling, and we could join bowling forces. or something.
