New TV season
Oct. 9th, 2007 10:31 amSo. Two weeks in and where are we at?
Mondays:
Heroes - Starting off better than last year for me but still, there are a few problems I'm having with it. There seems to be a lot of ... people doing silly and amusing things for plot contrived reasons. I'm hoping that there are deeper reasons for them later but so far, I'm pleased with the show.
Journeyman - A lot like Quantum Leap but serious and dark. I like this show but I can easily see where a lot of people would not. It has the dangerous potential to fall too deeply into the 'my life is a wreck and I'm trying to save it' melodrama week after week.
I'm thinking about adding Chuck because I've heard decent things about it.
Tuesdays:
House - Still House. I like the new people so far.
Boston Legal - Still Boston Legal. Not much different here.
Wednesdays:
Kid Nation - I like this. I really like this. I like seeing kids get responsibility and make good decisions with it (for the most part). Still, I'm thinking of replacing with Pushing Daisies for a week or two.
Bionic Woman - If I keep watching this show (and right now that is a whole lot of if) it will be for the beautiful job Katee Sackhoff is doing. She plays crazy so nicely. Such pretty crazy. I can't even remember anyone else's damned name in this show, if that gives you any idea how little I have invested in the rest of the cast.
Thursdays:
Smallville - Ugh. Drama land. Please call me when we get back to doing some actual interesting hero stuff, okay?
Grey's Anatomy - I don't buy George and Izzy. I don't buy them at all. I'm about done with this too, sadly, because I love Sandra Oh. Even still. And I actually like Meredith's little sister.
Fridays:
Moonlight - Oh. My. God. This show is so bad, I don't even know where to start. It really feels like someone has some specific stories they want to tell but they don't want to take any time to get to them. In the first two episodes you've had the girl learn that the guy is a) a vampire, b) saved her when she was a kid. The vampire mixes his noir and vampire metaphors liberally to awful effect. I also wonder if they have any sort of a shooting budget at all because every time they drive any where, it is obvious they're on a soundstage.
So. Has anyone found anything /good/ out there? At all?

Date: 2007-10-09 07:52 pm (UTC)Reaper was fun. Pushing Daisies was fun.
Tried to watch Moonlight, but CBC has started showing Torchwood so I watched that instead.

Date: 2007-10-09 10:16 pm (UTC)I actually like Moonlight. It's no Angel, but it reminds me a *lot* of Forever Knight and Dresden files. It's a mystery show with supernatural overtones. (Of course, Forever Knight was more a cult show than successful, and Dresden Files was cancelled after one thirteen-episode season, so maybe the American market isn't the place for a show like that. But I liked both.) As for her finding out he's a vampire already, I think that's all setup. I think she'll end up a sidekick character, and I don't think her finding out was supposed to be a major mystery.
I do suggest Private Practice, if you decide to stop watching Bionic Woman. I didn't like Grey's Anatomy at all, but my mom talked me into watching it and I loved it. (I also like Bionic Woman... didn't so much the first episode, but I liked the second. But I have satellite so I can watch both over the course of the night.)

Date: 2007-10-09 10:26 pm (UTC)Private Practice seemed really flat to me. I'm falling out of love with Grey's and Private Practice seems mroe of the same of the stuff I don't like on Grey's.
Please don't.
Date: 2007-10-09 10:51 pm (UTC)I lost interest in Chuck about 1/2 way through the second episode. You may like it, though.
I definitely need to add Reaper & Pushing Daises to my DVR, as asstastic as the Comcast DVR is now. Maybe it won't cut off the ending, that would be fun. I'd like to not have to go around and set all my series to end 2 minutes later.
I agree on Heroes, now that you've put a point on why I'm having trouble with it. I liked the Hiro arc more than I thought I would, until the end of last night's episode. The Office is still hilarious, though it almost seems too easy of a formula.

Date: 2007-10-09 10:58 pm (UTC)I have similar feelings about Journeyman as you do. Could be good but I think it's going to get lost in a new scenario every time.
Going to also tag Chuck onto the viewing list.
If you didn't, you should watch Burn Notice. The season's already done but it's awesome.

Date: 2007-10-09 11:49 pm (UTC)And bear in mind American football pretty much bores the piss out of me to begin with and I still hold this opinion. The football is a backdrop to the story, not the other way around. Which is as it should be.
Also the first season DVD box set is sooooo cheap. I do b'leeve your work has it for a mere twenny dollah dollah bills, y'all. That's less than a buck an episode! (And yes you have to start from the beginning. You HAVE to.)

Date: 2007-10-10 01:17 am (UTC)I like kidnation but I'm so glad I'm not Greg's mother because I would be ashamed to know that my child subtracts 10 years from his age anytime something doesn't go his way. That and Talyor needs to be smacked, beauty queen or not.
I like George n Izzy more than him n his wife.
Bionic Woman also has a certain ex-Grey's doctor init too along with the guy who played Garret on Crossing Jordan.
Mike and I watch Hero's, Pushing Daisies, Big Bang Theory, Kidnation, All of the CSI's, NCIS, ER, Cold Case, Without a Trace, Journyman, Ghost Whisper, and Moonlight. Along with Survivor.
I didn't think I would like Journyman but it seems good. Life doesn't really apeal to me since I swear someone's done the whole cop got blamed for a crime he didn't do and went to prison for it n now is out n trying to find out who put him in jail while saving the day thing before one too many times.

Date: 2007-10-10 03:49 pm (UTC)The one addition I'd suggest is "Reaper" on the CW. Most of their programming looks ghastly, but this one is surprisingly fun.
