Here are the Amazon DVD editor's picks for best 100 movies. Keep in mind that these are movies that are out on DVD ONLY. So, you won't find things like The African Queen, because it isn't out on DVD yet. (Though I do have it on laser disc is anyone wants to watch it.)

what?!?!?! no Adventures of Ford Fairlane?

lol

my list would clearly be different, but it seems ok, I question the inclusion of Chicago, but didn't find anything else to amiss.

Hmm... mixed feelings. I highly approve of the attention paid to older films (Modern Times, Nosferatu) but still felt that the top 25 were more indicative of current popularity than long term staying power. Perhap that's just because I am apparently one of 7 people on the planet who wasn't enraptured by the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I loved the LotR but I would take objection to Titanic. The movie just isn't that good.

I suck at Top 10 lists. The last time I tried to do one for movies, I eventually narrowed it down to 3 lists - one for sf/fantasy, one for comedies, and one for everything else.

Oh, and a Guilty Pleasures list, too.

Actually, I love reading other people's Guilty Pleasures lists, be they for books or movies. I find some great stuff that way.

Heh. I'm really awful at them mainly because it depends what mood I'm in at the time.

My Best of Music lists might as well be labled by emotion.

There are a few I know to watch out for, though. If I find myself listening to a lot of Tracy Chapman, much as I love her, I know something is oh so wrong. If, on the other hand, I'm all about the techno dance remixes, life is all good.

babe , chicago and titanic are all a bit suspect on that list.

Babe and Titanic are certainly suspect for me. Chicago not as much but I see your point. I'd probably change out The Iron Giant for Babe, if you needed a similar sort of movie for a replacement.

Titanic is worse for me. Man, that movie is so bad.

In Titanic... the ship did the best acting!

I've seen 91 of those 100.

I haven't seen Babe, and don't consider it essential.

I have seen Gladiator, and don't consider it essential.

I'd like to champion Babe - I do feel it essential (though yes, Iron Giant is close, if not the same thing).

I'm bemoaning the lack of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, The Matrix, Clerks, and The Day the Earth Stood Still. Blasphemy!!

Hrm. If we were talking cult flicks, I'd agree with those but I don't know if they're 'all time' material for me.

I'm surprised Sabrina didn't make it concerning Babe and a few other movies made it. I think SW Episode VI should be on there purely for the emotional sections of the film.
