Trailer time!

So. A lot of interesting trailers have come out. I'm gonna gather a bunch of them up for you here. It says a LOT about us right now, I think that the stuff that isn't sequels or remakes or that sort of thing is... apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic.

There is, of course, the mystery JJ Abrams project trailer that was in front of Transformers.

Along some what of the same lines, maybe, is Invasion which look like it could be interesting. I don't know, alien invasion movies freak me out a lot so, I'm totally biased on whether they really look any good or not.

Skinwalkers is a smaller werewolf movie. I have to say that for all of the 'cheezy movie voice over' stuff, it seems interesting at least.

Lions for Lambs seems too... tailor made. The whole stories interweaving thing is awesome when done well but I admit to not wanting them to be so freaking obvious about intent and construct. And I don't think I can buy Tom Cruise as a senator. Maybe it is just me.

August Rush could be fantastic. It could be awful. I want it to be fantastic. I like Freddie Highmore. If you don't like sappy 'we're all connected' anything in that direction, probably not for you. (And well... cute Irishmen don't hurt.)

I havne't seen anything I've liked from Jodie Foster recently but The Brave One might change that. Jodie Foster as a vigilante, I can buy and I really, really want to. I'll be seeing this in September.

Dead or Alive - Seen the video game? Hell. Did you see Mortal Kombat? Same movie, really, except WITH A TWIST! *gasp*

This one is really short but everything I've heard about WALL-E makes me want to see it.

There is a Bratz movie coming. No. I'm not posting the trailer.

I think Will Smith probably has another winner in I Am Legend. Note the gas prices in the background.

I believe that there are just too many things named The Kingdom. This one is all suicide bombers in Saudi.

And since I can't leave you on that note, I bring you Fido which could well be what happens /after/ Shaun of the Dead.

Yeah. I'm digging it but it doesn't seem as well organized as some others I've seen done. Hard to tell what is part and what is just fan copycat stuff.

That's actually part of what I'm grooving on. The sheer size of it all, and it definitely has that "what is it?" feel down. To the point where we don't know what's related to the movie and what's not, assuming any of it is.

Plus, reading some of the more hare-brained theories has been fun. The demon in the hair, Lovecraft (is there any justification for the supposed Lovecraftianness of the film? Because I haven't really seen any), all that.

It's fun to wade through, at least when I have the time for it.

I don't think they're misery inducing. I think that a lot of them are going to be great but I just think that, at the moment, a lot of our fiction is very 'end fo the world' focused. I am totally looking forward to somet of these.

It doesn't help things, though, that a lot of the stuff that isn't tension filled zombie stuff is pure gouda sequel re-make crap.

There are a few sites out there that give prophecy stuff that feels very Lovecraftian. As well as the general use of Sanskrit in places that looks like a crazy language no one understands.

It sounds more Hindu Wheel stuff to me than Lovecraftian. Shiva and Kali Yuga, that sort of thing. But it's also possible that I haven't read enough Lovecraft to resonate with it anyway.

But again, that's part of the sheer fun of it all. All the different theories, finding where they come from, and picking stuff out. I wouldn't be nearly as excited if we'd just been given a real trailer.

Shiva and Kali Yuga stuff has been suggested as well. This is a neat way of doing things, I think. I enjoyed it for the newest NIN album.

I am tangentially reminded of my favorite recent zombie moment. It comes from a comic called Occult Crimes Taskforce (which, if you haven't read, I will totally lend at you if you wish). The moment comes when the main character is up against something she can't handle and calls for backup. It arrives in the form of a single large, heavily armored individual who hands her a shotgun while he wades into combat, telling her to cover him. She says, "What if I hit you!?" He responds, "Don't. Replacement parts are hard to find."

"Zombie?"

"Undead American."

I will strive remember to bring it for you at the next gaming session. It's pretty short, only 4 issues, but it could easily have been 6, IMO. It feels like it moves a lil' too fast at times. Otherwise very enjoyable. It's inspiring me to do a Dark Matter sorta campaign XD
