Lots of crack smoking news for movies these days.

Beverly Hills Cop IV. I'm not joking. (Did anyone actually see 3?) Apparently Eddie Murphy has realized that he had something with being foulmouthed and loud. I've heard that his performace in DreamGirls is actually amazing, harkening back to when he was good. So... I can see where this might make sense if he's heading back that direction but... Man.

The RoboCop remkae has been frozen in its tracks for the moment. Not going anywhere. Instead it looks like we're getting a THIRD starship Troopers movie. The first one, I have to admit, I actually like. It's cheese but it has Doogie being an evil mind controlling Nazi and so much war time propoganda... It makes me giggle. I love to watch it. It isn't at all what it should have been but I do love the fact that the movie, at least to me, seem to be winking at the audience the whole time.

On the other hand, the Fantasi-Car looks pretty awesome. It gives me a bit of hope for the rest of the movie but special effects and awesome props does not a good movie make.

Preacher has been given the go ahead to become an HBO Series. This sounds good. HBO is a maker of some damned fine television right now. The bad part is who is involved. Mark Steven Johnson (aka the guy behind Daredevil and Ghost Rider) is writing and Howard Deutch (well... the last /good/ movie I can remember him making was Pretty in Pink) is directing the pilot.

And new on The Hobbit situation - MGM who has the distribution rights has said (generally), "Of course Peter Jackson is going to make it. So, unless New Line gets something going really fast, they're going to lose the rights, no one is going to want to play ball with them and Peter Jackson will make those two movies with the Germans the rights revert to and MGM. Even if they do make their movies, they'd likely have a hard time distributing them and have competing versions right quick.

.... And I think that's it for the moment.

Have you read the Starship Troopers book by Heinlein (not the movie adaptation, the original)? It is one of my favorite books, the movie does not do it justice in any way, although I do acknowledge the movie's potential as a "stereotypical guy movie"... guns, aliens, and boobies.

I have. Thus the comment of "not at all what it should have been" but I enjoy it anyway. And, yes, I do understand that people might look at me like I'm crazy for that.
