I promised movie things...
Sep. 12th, 2006 01:50 pmSo... A lot to catch up on.
The first is something which might manage to add another TV show to my list. It was announced today that "Emmy Award-winning actor Eddie Izzard is joining the season six cast of "24."" Huh. Figure that one out. "Izzard will portray a villainous accomplice." This is especially interesting because he's already got another show that'll be on FX about married con artists.
There are all these rumors going around about The Hobbit getting made by Peter Jackson. Well, no one has talked to Peter Jackson about it yet. MGM has the distribution rights. New Line has the production rights. Apparently someone at MGM said they were doing this... So, there has to be some sort of talking happening with New Line. We shall see. Especially since Peter Jackson just announced that -
He optioned "Temeraire." The historical fantasy series ("His Majesty's Dragon," "Throne of Jade" and "Black Powder War") is written by Naomi Novik. He has also optioned Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones and is writing the adaptation with partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens on spec with the intent of speaking to distributors after the script is done.
Weird Al released a video to go with his new song.
Gainax has announced that they will produce four theatrical features in its iconic "Evangelion" series. I guess we'll see who really is right about what happened at the end there.
Brandon Frasier has announced that he's doing another Mummy movie. No word yet on Rachel Weiss.
Heath Ledger on The Joker - "I wouldn't have thought of me, either. But it's obviously not going to be what Jack Nicholson did. It's going to be more nuanced and dark and more along the lines of a Clockwork Orange kind of feel. Which is, I think, what the comic book was after: less about his laugh and more about his eyes."
Luc Besson, director of the The Professional and The Fifth Element , says his upcoming Arthur and the Invisibles will be his last as a helmer.
A lot of awesome stuff about Pan's Laybrynth. I'm really looking forward to seeing that. Also, I'm glad that Christian Bale's movie Rescue Dawn found a home at MGM. It looked like a good movie and I'm glad someone picked it up.
And.... I think that's it for the moment.
