Ignore if you don't care about Metroid, video games or women in video games. Summary: Metroid: Other M is stupidly retarded and treats Samus as if she's useless, especially because she's a girl, which sucks because usually it is entirely unimportant what her gender is, which has been AWESOME up until now.

BTW, NSFW due to language.
Back at work. Happy to be here, actually, even if my brain is a little mushy.

Now that all of the travel business is over, time to crack back down on myself for foods and what I'm eating and all of that fun. I need to start eating breakfast. I kind of hate it and my body rebels at the idea of food before 10am but it needs to happen. I need to go back toward more fresh veggies and less pasta/bread/rice. None of this sugar snacking, either, damn it. I've really slid there.

ECCC announced William FREAKING Shatner as a media guest on Saturday. I am so amazingly excited and at the same time, I feel a faint amount of dread. I have faith, though. Things will be okay. There will be better planning this year. I will institute changes myself, if nothing else.

What else, what else?

Ah, yes. I am lacking in faith that my laptop will actually die a true death before my warranty is up. I would like to get a new one so as I can play Civ 5 when it comes out without my laptop choking to death. (Or if anyone has an ideas of how to stop my current one from being so freaking stupid, I'd be up for those too. And yes, if you're up to it, I can describe 'freaking stupid' in more detail.)

And now, I will go find lunch. And attempt not to need a nap. Stupid time zones.

Oh yeah!

Dude, so sweet. A Marvel vs Campcom game based on the new Street Fighter? Hooray!

What else...?

Oh, so not only is The Hobbit spinning its wheels over the MGM situation, so is the next Bond movie. (They're on the brink of bankruptcy and have been trying to find a buyer for awhile with no good prospects...) No one is really sure how this'll pan out.

Word is, in other video game news, that Stana Katic (otherwise known as Kate Beckett) will be voicing Talia alGhul in the next Arkham Asylum game. There is also word there will be Mr. Freeze.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Alan Cumming has pulled out of "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" due to his increased role on the CBS television series, "The Good Wife." This is my totally unsurprised face. This thing is so doomed.

The Wrap reports that Mark Hamill may be directing a feature version of his comic "The Black Pearl." That would be interesting.

This is also interesting:

Paladin: Trailer (Directors cut) from John Allardice on Vimeo.

Looks like it has something to do with Adobe...? Not entirely sure but it looks like fun.

Star Wars is coming to BlueRay sooner than later. It seems before the end of the year but there is no official date yet.

Also on the Star Wars note, it looks like that animated series is going to be post Return of the Jedi. Which is all kinds of interesting.
You know you do.

Can you identify all of the games here?

You could win an ENCOM badge of your own.
So, there is word of making (re-making?) Giligan's Island into a movie. All updated for today's audience of course. We have no need for a new Giligan's Island. None at all. I think Lost really fills the bill on that well enough.

Puppies are awesome and so is this ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUCRZzhbHH0 The fact that we can fastforward through them now, maybe it means they realize they need to be better? There are a number of really good ones right now.

So, Conan will be played by Jason Momoa and Conan's dad will be Mickey Rourke. So. It seems that the villain of the movie will be played by Stephen Lang. You don't know him, you say? Of course you do, I say. He played Col. Crazypants in Avatar.

There is word of ... *sighs* A Space Invaders movie. Because video game movies have come so far. Really. We.... *rubs her forehead* Gah.

So, there are a lot of people out there grumpy about the choice for the White Lantern. I wonder how many of them are caught up in the idea that who ever is in the white needs to be a hero. The color doesn't indicate anything about morality, nor should it seem to do so. Black is death, not evil. In this case people are fighting against it because THEY DON'T WANT TO DIE. I won't talk about it more than that for spoilers but I'd be more than happy to chat in the comments.

NOLA.com is reporting that test shooting has started for director Green Lantern today in Madisonville, which is on the other side of Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans.
Wow. Curse you Mike.

I got Dragon Age Saturday night. I played Sunday and yesterday and I'll be damned if I'm not going to play it again tonight.

And I can already see where I'm going to want to REPLAY IT as another type of character JUST TO MAKE DIFFERENT CHOICES.

*FLAILS*

Jesus, that must have been the worst choice ever. Talk about chosing between worse and worse.
It has been awhile since I've made a big entertainment update, so I'll give it a shot for you. There haven't been a lot of solid meaty this to talk about but some things have popped up, so we'll see.

Are you a fan of Kevin McKidd? Even if you don't watch Grey's Anatomy and have never wanted to watch it, there is an episode comine in March/April called “Suicide Is Painless". Yeah, that's a MASH reference there and it looks like it will be PTSD and Kevin McKidd centered. Rumors are that he kills it, too. He's been nothing but awesome on this show. And can I make mention of how AWESOME the triad of Mark, Callie and Arizona are? They're forming this little tribe of people and I love it. Keep Izzie off the show. It is MUCH better for it.

Supernatural got renewed for a sixth season and then the creator left as he'd told his five season story. So, that'll be all kinds of interesting to see what happens there.

Why wasn’t Kate’s name on the cave wall in Lost? Were there people that made it to the island that weren't candidates? It seems likely that is so but why? Did the MiB have his own candidates?

It seems that the Obama girls are Glee fans and have twisted mom and dad's arms a bit because the stars of Glee have been asked to perform at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll.

Columbia Pictures has hired Shane Black (he did Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Lethal Weapon) to direct Doc Savage. Which is interesting in a few ways.

Do you watch Caprica? I'm not sure if I like it yet or not - it seems to ride the line between interesting and creepy (and sometimes just overkill) but there is some awesomeness to it - http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/show-patrol/2010/02/exclusive-caprica-producer-jane-espenson-explains-sam-adamas-tattoos.html I love shows that build mythology.

Warner Brothers bought a controlling interest in Rocksteady. One might recall that there was this video game Rocksteady made last year... Had something to do with a guy in a suit with pointy ears... I have a feeling there will be a lot more to come here. WB and DC Entertainment are making a lot of moves that seem to make sense to me recently.

Buttercup is the newest toy to be introduced in the Toy Story 3 line-up. Yes, she's a unicorn. http://www.latinoreview.com/news/the-character-poster-is-filling-up-for-toy-story-3-9272?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latinoreview+%28Latino+Review%29

Ian McShane is in negotiations to play the villain (AKA Blackbeard) in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which makes it a HELL of a lot more interesting to me all at once.

According to a report on IGN, Gil Bellows has been cast as Smallville's Maxwell Lord. Huh.

It is confirmed that Paul McGuigan will be working on a show for BBC Scotland written by Grant Morrison and starring Stephen Fry. That's the hell of a combination of people. Paul described it as "If you know Grant's work you might have an idea of what it will be like. It’s like Twin Peaks meets Brigadoon!" There is more at Bleeding Cool if you're interested.

Bruce Willis is talking about a Die Hard 5. There isn't anything solid, yet, I think just press junket talk but... C'mon. Really? Ugh. He's also talking Unbreakable 2, which I'd be a little more interested in but still uncertain about.

Filming has started on The Tourist. This one is about an American tourist (Johnny Depp) who finds his life in danger when a female Interpol agent (Angelina Jolie) uses him as a dupe to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair. Because that's all kinds of awesome.

Dietrich Bader will be on Chuck in the second half of the season as some Buy More upper level executive.

Thandie Newton, Jason Isaacs and David Tennant are set to be in "Retreat", reports Screen Daily . The film follows a couple (Newton and Isaacs) who are seeking to rebuild their relationship by taking time out on a remote island but their peace is shattered when they find a man in uniform (Tennant) half-dead who tells them there is a lethal virus killing millions on the mainland. DUN DUN DUN!!!

And.... I think that's it for now.
You're all gonna lose me to my Xbox for about a week starting March 9th.

Final Fantasy XIII and then ECCC. Just letting you know.

Woooooo!

Movieweb has confirmed that Bryan Singer will come back to the X-men! He'll be directing X-men: First Class. It isn't what I'd want him to make but it will be coming back to the X-men, so it makes me happy. I'm interested in how that'll work out as in X-movie-verse that whole comic is pretty much impossible.

There are so many FF XIII screenshots out there right now. STOP TEASING ME! (Yes, I know it came out in Japan. GAH!)

Interesting. IESB has some Spidey 4 word: "Looks like everyone's friendly neighborhood web slinger has been been placed on indefinite hold... Looks like Raimi and the studio heads at Sony Pictures can't agree upon a villain for the film." Raimi wants Vulture, Sony wants someone ELSE, they don't know who. Could this be related, also, to the Tobey in The Hobbit news I saw yesterday? Hrmmmm.

And... Woah. Clash of the Titans second trailer is ALSO BADASS. Wow. I want to see this so much. Go take a look - http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/clashofthetitans/ So much giant monster, mythology on crack goodness.

Heeee!

Even though the trailer has the Joker in it, the teaser site would indicate a different direction. Happy, happy.
"The MacArthur Foundation and industry leaders like Sony are launching a nationwide challenge to design compelling, freely available science related video games," President Obama said today. He also specifically name-checked Sony's LittleBigPlanet program alongside organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Discovery Communications and Sesame Street.

The White House spoke positively about video games. The President mentioned video games and education in the same breath.

There are still big misses and places where I wish this administration were better but this is really cool.

Oh really?

U2 says they wouldn't mind their own Rock Band Beatles like game.

I'm in favor as long as I get the song below. And of course, Lemon. Because that would be full of awesome to play.

... are filled, filled I tell you, with awesome.

8/25 - Arkham Asylum
9/4-9/6 - PAX
9/9/09 - 9 and The Beatles Rock Band
9/11 - Whiteout
9/15 - Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
10/2 - Toy Story/Toy Story 2 re-release and Zombie Land
10/16 - Where the Wild Things Are
10/23 - Astro Boy and Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant
HA! Per the Adult Swim message boards, Kevin Conroy will be doing a voice in the fourth season of Venture Brothers. This is so awesome, I cannot even find the words for how awesome it is. Of course, I have to admit, that even if it weren't awesome, I'd be buying a copy of Arkham Asylum pretty much for Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil voice work....

LeVar Burton is voicing Black Lightning in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.

Bill Birch and Geoff Johns have been hired to write the Shazam movie. Did I say that before? I obviously can't be bothered to go and look.

Disney and Robert Zemeckis are going to remake Yellow Submarine. This really just makes me wonder what the hell they're thinking. Disney wants the film ready by the Olympics in London in 2012 for... tie in... purposes?

The trailer for The Wolfman can be seen here: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=58241 The trailer feels a lot like what Van Helsing might have wanted to be in an ideal world.

Word is that Scarlett Johansson has a multiple movie contract for The Black Widow. Could it be more Iron Man? Possibly The Avengers? Maybe a solo film? It worked so well for Elektra... Oh. Wait.

Awesome.

I love some good viral marketing.

There is a video game coming out very soon, which I'm looking forward to - Arkham Asylum.

Can I point you all here - http://www.gothamcitymunicipal.com/

This has a lot of the little details that make this sort of thing so much fun. The idea of a Gotham 2020 Olympics bid makes me grin. "Gotham City is now accepting architectural submissions for the restoration of the Clocktower."

And, of course, http://www.arkhamcare.com/. Heh. Heeeee. "Recent success with Harvey Dent..."
